Tales from building a second home and creating an olive grove in Umbria.
The story of the challenges and fun that followed the purchase of one half of a sunflower field on which to build a home on an Umbrian hillside. The tackling of language, laws and Italian ways from a standing start and the establishment of an olive grove. As olives began to be produced in quantity, what next? The processes involved in transforming the humble olive into fresh, green olive oil.
Sheila is a Dundonian by birth and has lived nearly 50 years in Aberdeenshire. With her husband she bought an old estate cottage and, having tackled some years of renovations they brought up their son and daughter there. They have since become handy babysitters to their grandchildren.
Sheila taught primary age children in Arbroath, in Fife and then Aberdeen and spent the last 20 years of her working career working with children with specific learning difficulties. This is Sheila’s Italian story.
