The Wines of Northern Italy

An online wine tasting event with Carol Brown

5th October 2021 at 19:30 BST

Carol Brown DipWSET is an Aberdeen Based wine educator and member of the Association of Wine Educators and the Circle of Wine Writers and is an IWSC judge and has been communicating about wine for 25 years. She is an Approved Programme Provider for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, hosts regular Aberdeen Wine Appreciators tastings, specialist masterclasses, workshops and evening classes, gin tastings, corporate wine entertainment events and since May 2020, virtual tastings! Carol also has a monthly wine feature in the Menu section of the Press and Journal and the Courier and thinks she probably does have the best job in the world!

During the tasting, Carol will be introducing you to some of the main wine producing zones, grapes and styles within Veneto and Piemonte.

Below is a suggestion of wines that you may like to taste during the tasting. How many different wines you choose is up to you. Sometimes tasters select a couple of bottles, sometimes 3 or 4! We would encourage you to try something that you wouldn’t normally drink.

The wines below are suggestions but if you usually shop at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi or Lidl, check out their ‘Special’ ranges and choose something from the same DOC/DOCG zone eg Gavi, or take a visit to your favourite local wine merchant and see what they suggest.

After the suggestions, we have included some info on preparing for the tasting.

The Zoom login details will be on your ticket and a link will be sent sent to you a day or two before the tasting.

What do tasters need to do to prepare for the tasting?

  • Buy their Wine!
  • Have a separate glass for each wine to allow you to compare and contrast the wines and see how they develop in glass
  • Glass of water.
  • Pen and paper if they would like to make notes
  • If you are having snacks, keep the flavours neutral such as plain crisps or crackers during the tasting, that will allow flavours of the wine to shine.
  • Don’t over chill the white wine, 2 hours in the fridge before the tasting is fine.

The price for the tasting is £12 for a family using one screen – of course this does not include the wine that you choose to buy!

Booking is on TicketSource and you will immediately receive your receipt and ticket with your booking reference. A day or two before the event you will get an email from us with the Zoom joining link. If there are any problems please email us on aberdeenitaliancircle@gmail.com quoting your booking reference.
