Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria in D RV 589 is a well-established work in the modern choral repertoire. While seemingly familiar, with iconic opening bars of music, the work was actually only rediscovered relatively recently. Most of Vivaldi’s music was ignored after his death, while Vivaldi himself was remembered primarily as a violinist rather than as a composer.
This talk will chart the history of his Gloria in D, from eighteenth century origins, to rediscovery and twentieth century revival, while also providing some insight into the world of music editing and publishing.
